Lorraine Lewis
Trager Bodywork
"From my very first training in the Trager Approach in 1988, I felt like I'd found my "calling". I felt like I'd come home to myself in a way I had not experienced before. I felt so much more "at home" in my body, and I felt a much deeper level of self-acceptance and ease. Dr. Milton Trager's poetic quote drew me to the work and resonated deeply within me:
"There is a way of being which is lighter, which is freer, A way in which work as well as play becomes a dance and living a song. We can learn this way."
I knew I wanted to share the wonderful experience of this gentle, yet deep, nurturing, freeing "work" with others.
I am also a Trager Introductory Workshop Leader facilitating classes for the public and for CE's for massage therapists.
As well as being a Certified Trager Practitioner, I am a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist (NC#213), and am certified in several energy healing modalities including Rising Star, Arcing Light, LaHo-Chi, and Reiki. I serve as prayer ministry coordinator at Unity Center of Peace and love supporting folks with affirmative prayer.
It is my deepest joy and pleasure to share this beautiful work which has so profoundly affected my own life and way of being." www.peacefulconnection.com

Mindfulness & Meditation
- Do you feel too busy to fully enjoy your life?
- Are you too quick to fly off the handle?
- Do you wish there was more calm, peace and stability in your life?
Meditation, mind-body awareness and mindfulness will teach you how to slow down, know what’s really important and stay focused and relaxed in the midst of a busy life.
Helpful in stress reduction and pain management, mindfulness practice has been shown to enhance immune function, favorably influence high blood pressure, sleep disorders, headaches, anxiety, depression, cancer and heart disease.
Regular meditation can provide the context for a general sense of ease so that healing and change naturally occur. Space is made for joy!
"Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We feel more alive. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing."
Focusing (Inner Listening) for Individuals
Focusing is a process of listening deeply and compassionately to yourself and others. The practice of Focusing encourages your own inner mindfulness, teaching you to trust your inherent wisdom. It brings clarity and self-understanding, release from inner conflict, and empathy with others. It can help you resolve conflicts, make decisions, and understand what you really want.
The technique used in Focusing is one that bypasses the mind's busy analysis and taps the body's deeper wisdom. It is a tool, based in mindfulness, that can be accessed when feelings and thoughts are too strong to just "be with". Many of us have experienced the frustration of imaginary conversations in our minds that catch us in a never-ending loop around a point of anger, conflict, or worry. By tracking the body’s senses instead of the mind's analytical thoughts, we can release ourselves from this mind-bind. Inner knots of anxiety and confusion transform and compassionate self-knowledge grows. As a tool that develops empathy with others, Focusing is helpful for individuals as well as therapists and body workers who support clients.

Psychological Counseling Services
Dr. Mike Butler
I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Memphis. I am very pleased and excited to be offering individual, couples, and group therapy within Hillsborough Yoga & Healing Arts. This setting is a good home for my mind-body approach, which encompasses the ways people tend to process their experiences and emotions, as well as how physical symptoms and mental/emotional concerns may be linked. I am especially interested in mindfulness meditation, and have been a practitioner myself for several years. I have instructed several groups in mindfulness-based stress reduction, and it informs my work with individuals as well.
Creative and expressive modalities for therapeutic progress also influence my approach, as do the concepts of wholeness and balance. For me, life is not about merely coping or managing, but about leading a fulfilled and meaningful existence. Being in nature (especially backpacking and kayaking)
re-energizes me, and I also enjoy reading and traveling. I recently moved to the Raleigh area, and I am having fun exploring the area with my wife.
Therapy can be a powerful resource in connecting with our own capacity for growth and change. I view therapy as a unique opportunity to discover new insights, develop greater resilience, and change the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that limit our potential.
People seek therapy for a variety of reasons and we all have unique ways of being. Therefore, I tailor my treatment approach for each person by drawing from multiple theoretical and intervention perspectives in order to best facilitate each individual’s progress. I consistently strive to offer collaborative & compassionate care that emphasizes individuals’ path towards increasing wholeness & balance, and to provide an environment that allows the life challenges and issues an individual faces to be effectively addressed.
I provide services for a broad range of concerns, and I specialize in
treatment of:
- Interpersonal Difficulties
- Stress Management
- Anxiety
- Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem
- Mind-Body Wellness
- Spiritual Development
- Men’s Issues
- Grief and Loss
- Couples Therapy
- Sexual/Sexuality Concerns
I offer confidential individual and couples therapy by appointment. Session duration and frequency are negotiable. The fee is based upon session duration, which can be discussed during scheduling. For your first appointment with Dr. Butler, please complete and bring all forms with you. Forms can be downloaded here or filled out in the waiting area if you arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

The Guest House by Jelaluddin Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival .
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably,
She may be cleaning you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
